The National Council of Pálinka
The National Council of Pálinka is the national professional consultation forum of the Pálinka-society. It cooperates in the implementation of the Pálinka-law, gives professional opinions and suggestions to the Government in connection with Pálinka. It also helps the unified regularization of production, origin, quality and protection of origin as well as the promotion of overall Hungarian interest in connection with the implementation of such rules. The Pálinka-law which was born from the initiative of the profession disposes of the establishment of the Council. The 13 members of the Council – of which ten are the candidates of professional organizations, two are the candidates of the Minister responsible for agriculture and one is the candidate of the Minister responsible for taxes - are called upon for 3 years by the Minister responsible for agriculture. The National Council of Pálinka was established on 23 April, 2009.
The assignments of the Council are:
- Developes the National Pálinka-Strategy for protecting Pálinka as a national treasure;
- Draws up an annual and multi-annual plan for Pálinka marketing;
- Takes actions for the interest of civilized consumption of Pálinka and participates in elaborating the social communications activities linked to civilized alcohol consumption.
- Gives opinion about the drafts of laws in connection with Pálinka, prepares and publishes professional recommendations on the production, distribution and control of Pálinka, gives professional opinion in the official processes of applications related to the territory-based brand protection of Pálinka.
- Promotes fair market behaviour and the realization of the matching advertising activities; to achieve such goals it publishes a Codex of Ethics and cooperates with administrative bodies in the fight against black econimy.
- For the interest of quality control it coordinates the technical cooperation of the producers and organizes professional forums. For the unified classification and laboratory testing of Pálinka the Council cooperates with the Pálinka-monitoring authorities, and – based on the request of the entities involved – publishes the register of reviewers of Pálinka sensory tests.
- Informs the parties in questions about the market and professional information and maintains a website to inform consumers and producers.
